Harvest festival and an afternoon in the park

Harvest festival and an afternoon in the park

October begins and with it the harvest

Festivals begin and everything around exclaims "I want to live", "I want to live"

Yet the leaves change to autumn glory,

leaves fall, and the fruit is picked, corn harvested , pumpkins ripe in the fields

Festivals, hayrides , the pumpkin patch

Heaping ice cream cones, energizing

Nonstop tube slides bring joy to your heart and soul and mind

All the time Sunlight filtering through hair and your being

Awe and wonder

Running time after time

To the slides, smiles

hair blowing

Golden sunlight rays, reflecting

Family picnic we see,by chance,at the park

Birthday celebration for a grandson of

Friends we have known for four decades

We take a moment

Appreciate one another's gray, and smiles, and recall days gone by

Our kids frequented the same Park decades ago

We now have a granddaughter , running, sliding, on all slides

Rekindling memories,

our children now grown and raising their own

Nearby landmarks, the lodge once rustic,

stood tall, picturesque, now gone- and with it the history

a marquee is gone that once declared weddings, and celebrations, life

Rebuild occurring now for another food franchise that may not be needed but

Such is the circle of life and times

About this poem: Harvest festival and an afternoon in the park, is a poem about a beautiful sunny Saturday the beginning of October.  Jayne and I  tool Maude Veltri to a  fall festival and also to Getty Heights Park - a park we used to frequent when our kids were young and also grandchildren more recently in life. Once Maude got onto things, she ran without stopping to slides at the festival and also five different sliding boards at Getty Heights. The large ice cream cone may have helped. We never forget her laughter, her smile and the sunshine coming through her hair.

We saw the Brown family and spoke with a number of their children and got to see their grandchildren playing and we talked about earlier days in our lives and how things have progressed and changed and how we're still enjoying our times with family and how it became even more important than other activities that we were both very involved in.  -Joe Holuta
