Fringe of The Robe

Fringe of The Robe

Desperate

If only I could touch the fringe 1

"What does desperation look like?

 What does desperation sound like?"

"I'm reaching for the hem of your garment" 2

River flowing in front of me

All of life passing

The fleeting

“to kind of hook some of those memories out of the kind of that river that, you know, that goes by with all your life in it.

And suddenly, it's passed you by.”3

"Who thought I'd find You at the lowest place?

Who thought You'd feel me in the crowd?"

...What a God, What a God." 4

"She went on trying where others might have stopped"5

Some bright days in her life

all varieties of flowers blooming

children, playing, and laughter heard

"What a God" -iza Elohim-

being sung in the distance

12 years of weakness and loss of life

Then one day the hearing of a prophet and healer near

Faith rising up in her

if only I could touch the fringe of His garment,

the edges of the robe stopping the crimson flow

"Who touched me"

Jesus and the woman's eyes meet

She remembers her dreams from younger days

"Something like scales fell from her eyes and she could see" 6

Healing reflected in her eyes and life

Trembling, now, before Him

Joy,

Joy

"Only God can do such things."

"Only God can do such things!"

Reaching, touching the fringe, the edge

Consoled and covered by the robe of Jesus

About this poem: Fringe of The Robe is a poem about desperate prayer and faith when we need God to act in our lives when we've exhausted all other options. There have been times in my life when anxiety or even panic sets in and it is hard for me to see a solution or to see clearly- trusting and being in faith that Jesus still comforts and heals today and trusting the Holy Spirit to move in my circumstances in a way that reveals The Father's love and overarching care and plan. I want to have faith and be desperate as the woman who wanted to be healed knowing she had no other hope- and reach for the fringe, touch the edge of the crimson robe of Jesus. - Joe Holuta

Luke 8:43-48 Living Bible
43-44 As they went a woman who wanted to be healed came up behind and touched him, for she had been slowly bleeding for twelve years, and could find no cure (though she had spent everything she had on doctors). But the instant she touched the edge of his robe, the bleeding stopped.
45 "Who touched me?" Jesus asked.
Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, so many are crowding against you...."
46 But Jesus told him, "No, it was someone who deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me."
47 When the woman realized that Jesus knew, she began to tremble and fell to her knees before him and told why she had touched him and that now she was well.
48 "Daughter," he said to her, "your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

Luke 8:43-48 Amplified Bible
43 And a woman who had [suffered from] a hemorrhage for twelve years a [and had spent all her money on physicians], and could not be healed by anyone, 44 came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His outer robe, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 45 Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" While they all were denying it, Peter ' [and those who were with him] said, "Master, the people are crowding and pushing against You!" 46 But Jesus said,
"Someone did touch Me, because I was aware that power [to heal] had gone out of Me."
47 When the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came up trembling and fell down before Him. She declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 He said to her,
"Daughter, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in Me] has made you well. Go in peace (untroubled, undisturbed well-being)."
