“...New Year’s Resolutions...”

New Year’s Resolutions

The first letters make up the acrostic and the last letters the telestich ; in this case they are identical. A double acrostic (also known as shadow poetry). It not only spells a word with the letters at the beginning of its lines, but with letters at the very end of the lines as well.

"...light in the beginning..."

   *

The Chosen (clip of video)

light

in the beginning

The first flash of light in the beginning

Morning came for the first time,

Light came for the first time

Darkness gave way and light was

Breathing, living, light as first breaths at birth,

Breath filled all things *

The first day and Joy came to the world, creation wakes

The Word before time was measured

The Voice, The Light, gave order to chaos

“Light blazing through our deepest, dark, depths

God spoke light, The true light” *

Pure light, not lessoned by life’s trials

Not dimmed by sin, nor the world’s ways that overshadow.

Love that was before time and came to us, a child born this day

Eternal love and life he gave

Cold winter night, warmed by the light of life

Recall the joy in the fields

Shepherds’ darkness now glorious light

Singing glory to God in the highest

A new song, new reality, a sign wrapped in a blanket, a Son given

Worthy, blessing, and honor, glory, Peace, Amen. Amen. *

Our life has seen signs and wonders

The dark has been made light

Savior born on Christmas,

Lifted high to top the "tree", the cross, the ‘finial d’arbre

Love to us in desperate times, "treasured in our hearts"

We pass this love to others for the same hope, same light, and life eternal

You have seen, heard, and touched the Word, the Voice,

the One, who had no beginning,

Jesus, God with us, Immanuel living alongside us

The Angel messenger spoke “Greetings!”

Speaking to a woman, Mary, about The Savior, the Son of God

News of great joy!

The impossible is possible with God

Before time, to the manger, to the tree, to the center of the throne

The Lamb, worthy

the scroll, news of life and great joy

around the throne, a new song age to age

Thousands of Messengers (with a great voice): Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.

Worthy is the Lamb to receive authority and wealth and wisdom and greatness

And honor and glory and praise.”*

“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and beneath the earth and in the sea and all things in them echoing the messengers. *

Every Creature: To the One who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

Be blessing and honor and glory and power

Throughout the ages.” *

Always been God

As my knees touch the ground in the morning
May new mercies awaken my soul
For Your grace can rewrite any story
And that grace every day writes my own
Faithful You've been
Faithful You are
You never fail to complete what You start
You've always been good
Always been kind
You've never let go
You've always been God
When the walls 'round my heart won't surrender
I will pray my way around Jericho
And from season to season I'm singing
For I know Him in whom I have hope
Faithful You've been
Faithful You are
You never fail to complete what You start
You've always been good
Always been kind
You've never let go
You've always been God
You've always been God
This is my pursuit (this is my pursuit)
Daily trusting You (daily trusting You)
Every step in surrender (oh-oh-oh)
Live to serve You Lord
Live to know You more (oh-oh-oh)
Live to love You forever (oh-oh-oh)
This is my pursuit
Daily trusting You (daily trusting You)
Every step in surrender (oh-oh-oh)
Live to serve You Lord
Live to know You more
Live to love You forever
And evermore
Faithful You've been
Faithful You are
You never fail to complete what You start
You've always been good
Always been kind
You've never let go
You've always been God

"...Moments of Despair “I am waving a flag of hope….”

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain- The Passing of the Armies

Moments of Despair

“I am waving a flag of hope….”

The news, another young life, dancer well known, gone in an instant

“Pure love and light”, hopeful days before, best heart, lovely family, still the despair

Suicide, the surprising news, the shot not heard 1

I’ve had friends and family who had this incalculable loss in life

Stars on the screen I admired, the same devastating loss

A middle-aged mother, depression, so deep, pills at her side, survives but never the same, eyes and life forever changed,

Daughter wishing you could know the mom she knew

A friend’s father, the bridge, a moment of despair, falling when so much to live and rise to, the despairing moment, perhaps grasping, hope to undo, the surrender, white flag on the bridge

Wish we could turn back the clocks of time, for those seemingly invisible,

to offer love and lifting and help they need

Warn of the thin ice they are walking on

Young student, a teacher soon, military, careless night

lost all hope rollcall at the church -first name, their last name and their rank, no response, no echo, no life

Painfully onlookers, without breath even to ask why

Young teenager so beautiful and promising from the swing set hung

So despairing, at an age when so much possible

Inconceivable to think she had nothing to live for

Despairing moment, blind to the future

Beautiful coworker, singer, Christian advocate,

Child at home as a mother handling all strife

Despair, a moment, pills take her young beautiful life

The white flag of surrender at her side

No longer singing the song sounding in the hall for all to hear

Author, chef, and traveler, talent to parts unknown

No reservation of his love and loneliness as well, life hanging in the balance

Dark and lonely moments, despairing heartbroken

Surrenders, a white flag gently waves at his side

So many promising ones choose the same way

Blinded by despair

Walking on thin ice, the thin ice that is never safe

Possibly thinking that persevering through the end means being perfect without flaw

We surrender all, we lift the white flag, but we lift it high in hope,

Mercy triumphs over judgment.

“…a towel so white. But it bore a mighty message that simple emblem of homely service, wafted hitherward above the dark and crimsoned streams that never can wash themselves away.”2

Therefore, “We do not grieve as one’s without hope” 3

“So, the last question then becomes this: Can a Christian be so depressed and temporarily blinded to the hope of the gospel that he takes his life in a temporary moment of despair? And I think the answer to that is yes.” 4

“Seasons of darkness come and go in the Christian life

But between the terror that we should feel about that choice and the hopelessness for the victim of suicide, between those two I am waving a flag of hope that true faith can have a season that dark.”4

Moments of Despair

“I am waving a flag of hope….”

Glimpse poetry by Joe Holuta

About this Poem: Moments of Despair, "I am waving a flag of hope, is about the loss experienced from suicide, for the person and those they love. Christians with true faith experience as well and I feel they still will be part of our heavenly hope based on their salvation in Christ. I've attended funerals of the ones mentioned above and have looked family in the eye who have lost loved ones to suicide and have tried to provide this flag of hope in such a desperate place. - Joe Holuta

:...summer’s light in december..."

pic by rachel

Summer’s light in December

Our lives receive fresh hope in December, like sunshine warms the soul in summer

December’s cold, and wintery scene brightened now by the birth of her, reviving our hearts

The smile and bright brown eyes, who could’ve dreamed of her three decades later

She carries our hearts in sensitive ways and ignites hope

Her friendship and thankfulness are rivers in desert places

The youngest of four with paved roads before her

Challenging, comparing, expectations, for the youngest,

and at times feeling invisible,

Yet so many ways she is daring, dauntless and stands out,

Carved her own path to blessing and feat

Like a young artist stands out, her hand a masterstroke in the moment

inspiring to nieces and nephews, and cherished the same

A present, from Aunt Emily for her nephews and nieces,

Un regalo di zia Emily per i suoi nipoti e nipoti

Moments and memories etched in glass over the course of years, strengthened in the glass master's kiln

Siblings' hearts she blends and renews together

Humility and perspective that lessens all anxious care

She lifts and mends friends and shattered pieces

Emily is a bright day and warmth in December.

Summery breath, seen in the cold of winter

Life-giver and future graces that will last,

Joy for changing seasons,

“joy greets the soul with the smile of morning” *

and a lifetime in view

Summer’s light in December,

Glimpse poetry by Joe Holuta

* Psalm 30:5 VOICE

About this Poem: Summer’s light in December is a poem about Emily Ann our daughter who was born on a wintry December day. Emily is fresh air when you need it most, a gift to us, her siblings, nieces and nephews. She believes, cares, and holds on with you to ignite hope when in a desert place. Emily is a life-giver and a human with loving qualities to which we all aspire. - Joe Holuta

"...Christmas comes again..."

Christmas comes again

The sun shines brightly through the windows, once again

“The morning light is about to break upon us”1

The Christmas wreaths chatter on the windows and panes, red ribbons, dancing in the wind

Naturally, memories ebb and flow through my mind

like gentle waves, the family summer beach times,

The water, like lifetimes, taking some sand and shells along with recollections, cherished souvenirs back to the vast ocean

The Christmas story refreshes my mind

Walking, I see the starlings and hear singing in the trees against the blue, blue sky

Stories, Hope in this season of change-

Love with everything you have my sweet lives

“May your hearts beat strong forever”2

Future generations, generations to come

Marvelous and beautiful designs, my inheritance

“The clouds may go and come, and storms may sweep my sky”3

But Christmas comes again so I will look up to see

The Bethlehem Star, the Light to my darkest places

Our Savior is born, our Hope, Living gift,

Our whole world now rests on His shoulders, the Prince of peace,

The Lamb worthy to open the scroll,

Shining light, center of the evergreen wreath with a crimson bow

Life- pressing, brief, yet beautiful as Christmas surely comes again.
